As a kid, I was obsessed with Disney. I couldn't decorate my bedroom Disney-themed, so I wondered what else I could decorate. I concluded that I was going to be a teacher so I could decorate my classroom Disney-themed. That was the inspiration that marked the start of my career as a future educator! I was also born into a family of teachers and principals, so I have been surrounded by this environment my whole life. My dad even put “Welcome home baby Taylor Larson” on the school's board out front the day I was born. I guess you could say I have technically been in schools since day one! My reasons for becoming an educator have grown over the years to be about more than using Mickey Mouse cutouts on my walls. However, that will still be the theme of my future office and maybe even some of my Physical Education lesson plans!

The main reason I knew I wanted to become an educator was the day I discovered Matilda the Musical. The more you get to know me, the more you will find out that I love musical theatre, which is why I was ecstatic to watch this musical. As I watched, I felt drawn to Matilda and related to her in many ways. I saw what Miss Honey did for Matilda and all her students. If you are unfamiliar with the musical, Crunchem Hall is a strict school built around fear, punishment, and obedience rather than learning, creativity, and kindness. Miss Honey provided the opposite environment for her students. She was kind, patient, encouraging, and understanding. She made her classroom feel safe and welcoming, where students could ask questions, learn, and express themselves without fear. She recognized Matilda's intelligence and potential and encouraged her to grow. Miss Honey showed her students that they mattered and that their abilities were worth developing. Ever since then, I have aspired to be somebody's Miss Honey. Even if it is just one student, I will have done enough.

I love people, caring for them, seeing them smile, and helping them recognize their potential. I have always connected with students, from elementary to high school students.

I want to be there for everyone, especially those who don't see themselves as extraordinary, because we all are! We all need someone like Miss Honey in our lives, whether it's an actual teacher or just someone who teaches you something. I want to encourage students, give them the resources they need to succeed, and help them develop confidence and love for themselves and those around them. I aspire to be a teacher students can come to in times of need, reminding them that they are never alone. Ultimately, I hope to be the kind of teacher who makes a lasting difference in my students' lives, just as Miss Honey did. I want my students to leave my classroom knowing they are capable, valued, and loved, and that someone will always believe in them, even when they struggle to believe in themselves. This is why I chose education.
