What the McKay School Mission Statement Means to Us

Jesus Christ is at the heart of everything we do here at the McKay School. We asked our student ambassadors what the above mission statement means to them on their journey to becoming an educator. This is what they said:

Lauren

"I love the emphasis on following the example of the Master Teacher, Jesus Christ in the mission statement. Here at BYU, not only are we learning how to teach, but we are learning how to teach like the Savior. This will allow us to see our future students truly as children of God. Overlooking their current circumstances and seeing them for the divine potential that they have, to love and minister to them as Christ would."

Kamora

"I love studying to be a teacher here in the McKay school because we focus so much on teaching like the Master Teacher. To me, it brings so much meaning and purpose to everything we do in class and in the schools. The mission statement helps remind me of this."

Dixon

"As I focus on teaching like Christ, the Master Teacher, I feel as though I am becoming more like Him. It adds more meaning to what I do as a teacher and helps me to see others as He sees them. As I strive to model the attributes of Jesus Christ, the Master Teacher, I am preparing to educate others with an eternal perspective."

Sarah

"I love learning to teach as Christ does! Each of our students are individuals, and therefore, they must be administered to one by one. What works for one child won't work for another, but that doesn't mean they have less of a chance to learn. Teaching with an eternal perspective helps us to remember our students' divine potential."

Megan

"As I prepare for a career in education, I want the Savior to be at the center of everything I do. He should be my why. I love the mission statement for that purpose - the focus on the Savior. As I strive for perfection, he is the perfect example. I want to see my students through His lens and not my own. I know that He will help me have an eternal perspective and love each of my students as a child of God."
