Wondering about field trips you can do as a teacher? The aquarium is a perfect place for every grade level.

What is a typical day like?

Students will come in the morning. There are five places to explore: South America, Asia, Utah, Antartica, and the Ocean. In addition students can participate in a touch pool, in a virtual reality experience about the ocean or the Amazon, and a 4D show about penguins or sharks. There is also an area outside where students can eat lunch and play on the playground. When you book a field trip, the aquarium also offers on EcoVenture class for every grade, which you can learn more about here.

What can students learn?

At the aquarium, students will have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of animals and learn about the habitats they call home. They can race to see who can find the camouflaged creatures first and discover animals ranging from the rainforest to the desert. They will see otters, sharks, snakes, fish, and countless other species. They might even get to see the clouded leopard.

Younger students will enjoy learning about different animals, their unique features, and how they survive in their environment. Older students can deepen their understanding by reading exhibit information, learning about animal adaptations, and exploring the importance of conservation and endangered species. The aquarium also has an outside area for lunch and for students to play on the playground.

Here's what we gained from our own experience at the aquarium:

Mikaela: Observing and learning about the different creatures at the aquarium was a fascinating experience. Going in with a teacher perspective I thought of how the aquarium can open more doors in being able to prepare in the classroom before and continue to discuss afterwards to help students deepen their understanding. Seeing these animals and their habitats gave me an even greater sense of gratitude for the opportunity to explore a part of creation that I would not have been able to experience on my own.

Kamora:The aquarium was so cool! I think it's awesome that we have such an amazing aquarium in Utah, even though we're landlocked. It gives children, parents, and teachers the opportunity to learn about ecosystems and animals they don't get to see very often. My favorite part of the aquarium was the touch pools. Guests can reach into the water and gently touch a variety of sea creatures. I remember loving these exhibits as a kid, and I think they played a role in developing my love for marine life. The aquarium is a fantastic place to visit on a field trip!
