"At the BYU McKay School of Education, our inspiration is Jesus Christ, the Master Teacher. We educate for eternity, knowing that every person is a child of God with a divine nature and destiny.
Learning, for us, is life-giving—it’s why McKay School students commit to serving in challenging and noble professions and why McKay School faculty dedicate themselves to being leading scholars, outstanding teachers, and role models of living the gospel.
As faculty, staff, and administrators, we devote our minds and spirits to our work so we can nurture the full potential in others—for the benefit of the world"

Check out what the core message means to our student ambassadors!

It is so important to minister to the one just as Christ did. Educating and supporting children is the best way to improve the world. Helping others to reach their full potential in this life is the best way we can spend our time and exactly what the Savior would have us do.

The McKay School statement reminds me of why I want to be a teacher and inspires me to reach my potential as I strive to be like Christ. Whenever I am struggling with classwork, I remind myself that I am devoted to helping nurture my future students which is why I am learning all I can right now. Committing to a lifelong dedication of serving brings me so much joy as nothing makes me happier than helping students. As a future teacher, I can stay grounded by always remembering that every person is a child of God and I want to help them reach their potential. I am so excited to have my own classroom someday, but even after I graduate from the McKay school, I will always remember the school’s message of being devoted for the benefit of the world and work hard to be like the Master Teacher, Jesus Christ.

I love that the Mckay School statement is so centered around Jesus Christ. As teachers we usually can't teach about Jesus Christ but we can still make Christ part of our lives and our classrooms in the way we live and the example we give. By living like the Savior our classrooms will become more of a place of love, purpose, learning, and warmth. Every child we teach comes from a divine origin and is precious to the Lord, just like anyone else it's important to show children respect and compassion. I feel that when I am around children I am closer to Christ. It means so much to me to know that I can make even the smallest difference in a child's life. Committing to working with young children is full of challenges but it is also full of so much good.

I love how the McKay School focuses on teaching like the Master Teacher, Jesus Christ. Because we talk about Jesus so much, it puts purpose behind what I am doing. School can be really stressful, but remembering my purpose for being here, loving and nurturing others, keeps me going. Jesus Christ was the ultimate example of this. He never gave up on people and always loved and taught them. I want to follow His example and help each child of God, just like our core message says.
