"At the BYU McKay School of Education, our inspiration is Jesus Christ, the Master Teacher. We educate for eternity, knowing that every person is a child of God with a divine nature and destiny.
Learning, for us, is life-giving—it’s why McKay School students commit to serving in challenging and noble professions and why McKay School faculty dedicate themselves to being leading scholars, outstanding teachers, and role models of living the gospel.
As faculty, staff, and administrators, we devote our minds and spirits to our work so we can nurture the full potential in others—for the benefit of the world"

The core message is a great reminder of what's really important. It's easy to get bogged down in all the little things that come with being a teacher, but we're really here to help God's children to reach their full potential. While math and reading are important, nothing is more important than helping others the way that Christ would.

The McKay School core message to me means that as future teachers we strive in every aspect to be like our Savior, Jesus Christ. To see students as God’s children and help them in every way we can. Student's personal lives are unpredictable, it can be hard to tell who needs an escape from home life. It is so important that we as future teachers love everyone as Christ would and meet the students where they are to help them learn and grow personally as the Master Teacher would.

The core message, being that every person is a child of God having a divine nature and destiny, helps me to understand the importance of treating all with love and respect. To me, this helps me know how I should approach my interactions with others as well as how I should view even those who I don't get along with.

To me, the core message emphasizes the crucial role of educators in our society. Educators help students realize their potential and help shape their vision of who they want to become By following the example of our Savior, we can become the best of teachers and mentors to our future generations. If it wasn't for the educators in my life, I wouldn't have realized my talents as well as weaknesses. I wouldn't be here without the counsel of my administrators and teachers.

The core message brings purpose into what I am studying. School can be really stressful but remembering my purpose for being here, to help kids learn, keeps me going. Jesus Christ was the ultimate example of this. He never gave up on people and always loved and taught them. I want to follow His example and help each child of God, just like our core message says.

I love our focus on Jesus Christ as the master teacher in the McKay School. That was one of the biggest factors to me when choosing to come to BYU. I love the phrase that we "educate for eternity" knowing that we should be learning and teaching with an eternal perspective knowing that we will always take what we learned here on Earth with us. I'm so excited to be able to have such a big impact on the world as I educate and care for one student at a time.
