Since I was very little I always wanted to follow my mom's (and grandma's) footsteps by becoming a teacher. After several years of working towards applying and attending BYU, my dream is finally becoming a reality.
I am incredibly grateful for my Savior and the way that He has so beautifully blessed my life. As I have tried to figure out the direction I want to take with my life, I have felt His guiding hand every step of the way.
One of my favorite names of Christ comes in Isaiah 9:6 which says, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." A Counsellor is someone defined as one who gives guidance in personal, social, emotional, or other experiences.
As a child of God, I am so grateful for a Savior who is counseling me in my decisions. As a future teacher, I am so glad that I have the perfect model for when I am given the opportunity to guide my own students. I truly believe that teaching is one of the most Christlike callings. Jesus Christ sought to help and heal the broken hearts and made a special effort to minister to and counsel with the one.
Teaching is just like this. We seek to help the children that are hurting or struggling. We want to reach each student on an individual level. We want to share things that will impact them for the rest of their lives. We want to guide them down the best paths.
To me, this is what it means to be like Jesus, exemplifying the Master Teacher every day.
