Where/What Are You Teaching?

I’m currently in Alpine School District working at both Parkside Elementary and Orem Elementary! I work in a special education resource classroom with grades 5th and 6th!

How Did Your Time at BYU Prepare You for Student Teaching?

My time at BYU helped me with student teaching by creating much insights and strategies on how we can benefit our students and their success both academically and emotionally!

What is Your Biggest Takeaway from Student Teaching?

A big takeaway from student teaching I would say is that you are constantly learning every single day, whether that’s from working with the students, collaborating with your mentor teacher, or even relearning 6th grade math. You’re always learning but it just makes the experience even better!

What is Your Favorite Thing About Student Teaching?

I love getting to work with the best kids ever, just constantly learning from them and getting to know them! They truly are the best kids and working with them has let me learn about myself both as a person and as a teacher!

What are Your Plans for After Graduation?

My dream is to work in a resource classroom, whether that’s being a full time teacher or a teacher aide/para, just honestly anything that involves being in a special education resource classroom!

Any Advice for Current Students?

The work is hard, but it is 100% worth it! Especially when what you are learning in lecture and also learning when you’re in an actually classroom tie so well together. Also, the friendships you make in your cohort will help you get through the semester! Just simply take it one day at a time and don’t let the little things stress you out!

We're so grateful for Sarah's example and willingness to do this interview. Having an upperclassman to look up to can make such a difference. We hope the rest of your student teaching goes well! If you want to reach out to more students who are currently in the education programs here at BYU, schedule an appointment with us below!
