The BYU McKay School of Education offers many different opportunities for students to get involved. One way to get involved is by joining a student organization! Participation in TeD student council, NSSLHA, or student council for exceptional children offers great networking opportunities, friends, and experience to add to your resume. Keep reading to find out which organization would be right for you!
TeD Student Council: This student organization is a part of the teacher education department in the McKay School. If you are an elementary, early childhood, or physical education major this one is for you! A group of students and faculty advisors will meet typically monthly to discuss and plan events and promote unity in the teacher education department. This is a great opportunity to develop and improve leadership skills. Click here to apply today!
BYU NSSLHA: NSSLHA stands for National Student Speech Language Hearing Association. It is a pre-professional organization for undergrad students preparing to become Speech-Language Pathologists, Audiologists, or any related professional. Most students who join are already studying COMD, but all students who are interested are welcome! To join, go to clubs.byu.edu, search the club name, and request to join. A yearly club fee of $15 is also paid via Venmo (@Juliana-Pickard). This club provides information about grad programs, networking with professors, job opportunities, free swag and food, and lots more!
Student Council for Exceptional Children: The Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC) is the BYU student chapter of The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the success of children and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. Here at BYU, they have organized several activities and service projects to raise awareness and inclusion of people with disabilities here on campus as well as in the local community. All McKay School students are welcome and encouraged to join and help make a difference. The sky is the limit with the impact that you can make in this organization!
