Hey! My name is Valery Abila and I grew up in Peachtree Corners, Georgia! Typically no one ever knows where Peachtree Corners is, so I say I'm from Atlanta, even though I'm actually 25 minutes northeast of Atlanta.
I love listening to music, watching the sunset, and spending time with my family and friends! I grew up speaking Spanish at home and I also learned Portuguese on my mission. I served in São Paulo, Brazil, in the Temple Visitors Center!
I am currently a junior studying Elementary Education and minoring in TESOL K-12 (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)! I absolutely LOVE my major and I am so excited to become a teacher!
I chose this career path because all of my teachers were very important to me growing up. They helped me love to learn, and made school a place I loved being at! I was always that one kid that was excited to go to school in the morning and looked forward to going home so I could do my homework.
My teachers had a huge impact on my life and encouraged me to reach my full potential so I want to do the same for my future students. I also love helping kids learn new things, gain confidence and I love seeing their excitement when they learn something new! I chose to minor in TESOL because I was an ELL (English Language Learner) student from kindergarten through second grade and I am eternally grateful for my teachers who believed in me, were patient with me, and helped me be able to succeed in school. After I graduate, I would love to go back to Georgia and teach at my elementary school.
