Hi there! My name is Avery Jensen, and I am a Special Education major with an emphasis in severe/profound disabilities. I have absolutely loved studying special education at the McKay School, and I have learned so much. My passion for helping students in special education classrooms is constantly growing!
A little bit about me: I am from West Jordan, Utah. I went to Southern Utah University for a year before my mission, and then I transferred to BYU after my mission. I never planned to go to BYU, but as I was learning about the amazing teaching program and the opportunity to grow spiritually, I felt so strongly that I needed to transfer. This was one of the best decisions I have made. I served a mission in Belém, Brazil, which was such an amazing experience. I fell in love with the people and the Portuguese language.
In my free time, I love spending time outdoors! I especially love swimming, camping, and hiking, but anything outdoors is so fun to me. I also enjoy reading, making sourdough, and crocheting. I married my high school sweetheart, Porter, a year ago. We currently live in Draper, but we are always hanging out in Provo. We love to travel and go on adventures whenever we can!
I fell in love with special education through the many opportunities I have had to work with and serve students with diverse needs. I have especially loved working as a tutor and as a registered behavior technician. Every student I have worked with has such a special spirit, and I am so passionate about becoming the best teacher I can be to help them. Though I do my best to help and serve them, they are always helping and teaching me just as much. I am so grateful to be able to study at the McKay School, and I am so excited to be an ambassador!
