Get to Know Our Associate Dean: Charles Graham

At the BYU McKay School of Education, we are fortunate to have a truly exceptional team of faculty and staff members. Among these outstanding individuals, we are proud to have Dr. Charles Graham as one of our associate deans!

Dr. Graham specializes in the study of technology-enhanced teaching and learning, with a specific emphasis on the creation and assessment of blended and online educational settings. His research is dedicated to advancing digital transformation, not only at the pedagogical level but also at the institutional adoption level.

Dr. Graham grew up in Orem, Utah and attended Mountain View High School in Alpine School District. In high school, he met his wife and they were married after both serving missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In his free time, Dr. Graham loves to be outdoors biking on the Murdock trail with his wife, hiking, and even canyoneering!

Dr. Graham did his undergraduate degree here at BYU in the Electrical Engineering Department. Then, he went on to get a master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. While he was there, he became interested in how teachers can use technology to help with their teaching. That eventually led him to do a PhD at Indiana University’s School of Education in the Instructional Systems Technology program. After finishing his PhD, Dr. Graham and his wife left Indiana for a job at BYU with five children in tow. Here at BYU he was hired into the Instructional Psychology and Technology Department where he has been teaching ever since!

Currently, Dr. Graham is of two associate deans in the McKay School. Some of his primary responsibilities have to do with faculty professional development and scholarship in the MSE. Together with Dean Hall-Kenyon and Associate Dean Clark, they focus heavily on trying to better learn how to integrate faith and spiritually strengthening outcomes with the already high quality education BYU Education students are receiving.

A Piece of Advice from Dr. Graham:

"I know that your years of school can be very challenging. It is an exciting time but also a time when our lives are put under additional stress. I have seen over and over again in my own life and the lives of those around me that when we prioritize our relationship with God, we feel peace and are given strength beyond our own abilities. Jesus said, 'Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me.' God will bless you as only He knows how as you seek to make Him a central part of your BYU experience."
