Each of the advisors here at the McKay School want to help their students. They want to get to know you and help you succeed. Here you can get to know Tara Goulding!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree from Eastern Oregon State University in Secondary Education with endorsements to teach Business and Music. I taught music for 7 years in the Phoenix, AZ area. Completed a Master's of Science in Education Leadership from University of Phoenix. I worked as a middle school advisor for 3 years and then moved to Utah. I've been an advisor and field placement coordinator for BYU McKay School for 16 years. I completed a 2nd Master's of Science in Academic Advising from Kansas State University while here at BYU. I've been married to my high school sweet heart for 37 years! We live in Mapleton and have 4 children, 1 daughter-in-law, and 2 grand children. I love to travel and read. My husband and I are in the process of traveling to every MLB ballpark. We have 12 done and 1 more planned in August! So fun!
What can students come to you for?
I advise students that are in the undergraduate Communication Disorders Major. I also advise for a few secondary education teaching minors and place all of the secondary education student teachers out in the schools.
What is your favorite part about working with students?
I love getting to know the students at BYU and helping them navigate their education experience. When I see them at graduation getting their diploma, it fills my heart with joy!
What's one thing you want every student to know?
No one cares more about your college education than you do. Ask for help. Ask questions and keep asking until you get the information and help you need. If college was easy, everyone would be in college and all would graduate. As a first generation college graduate, seeking the right people to help navigate college was what got me through. We advisors are here to help you obtain your career goals and get to graduation!
What advice would you give to a new student?
Go see your academic advisor! They can help make sure you are on the right path and taking the most efficient and effective path to graduation. They can also provide you with information about resources available at BYU.
Anything else you'd like to share?
College is hard but you can do hard things! Advisors are here to help. Go Cougs!
