What has drawn you to education? Maybe it's been something you've wanted to do since elementary school or is something you didn't consider until last month. Everyone's decision to choose education is unique and personal to them but maybe you can relate to some of our responses. Here's a look at why some of us chose education!
Rachel

Choosing education is the best path for me because I love
helping others, especially children. I am excited to dedicate my life to serving others and helping students reach their potential. Teaching provides so much fulfillment and will shape me into a better person. When I was in high school I started tutoring a young student with dyslexia. Although I learned how challenging teaching and engaging a child is, especially when they just want to play video games all day, I was able to realize how teaching makes me feel happy and accomplished. Pursuing Elementary Education at BYU allows me to learn classroom and behavior management, lesson plan development, and Christlike attributes for teachers. Being in this major makes me excited to become a teacher as I build my confidence and feel more prepared to help children in school.

I chose education because I want to help others overcome challenges and reach their fullest potential. I was supported by amazing adults as a youth, and I want to pay it forward by supporting children myself. As Matthew 25:40 says, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." God loves the little children, and serving them is one way I can serve him.

I chose education because I want to uplift and support children. I love to be part of children’s growth and learning. It is so fun and rewarding to discover new things together and to help children interact with the world. I love the opportunity that education gives me to do hands-on learning and to be a good influence in a child's life. Education is the right path for me, I feel that I am where I am meant to be when I’m in my education classes and when I am around children. I’ve really enjoyed studying education at BYU and learning more about the master teacher Jesus Christ. A huge reason I choose education is because of the love I have for children. It's inspiring to learn about Christ's love for little ones and I love that pursuing education gives me the opportunity to see children as He does.
Why are you considering education? Think about your motivations for pursuing education. If you want to make a difference and uplift God's children, you're in good company with the McKay School students and faculty.
