Early Childhood Education

From the earliest experiences in life you are learning. Think about how quickly a young child learns to speak, to walk, or to play. Education is an essential part of our growth and makes an impact in our life every day as we get older.

Let's go back to your first day of Kindergarten, maybe you were excited, nervous, or a little bit of both. Young children learn so much more in school than we may first assume. They of course learn math, science, literacy, art, PE, and many other subjects. Another big role of education is also learning to communicate with others and make friends, to control their emotions, and to make sense of the world around them. They learn through play, they explore and experiment with new wonders and curiosities. This doesn't stop as we get older. We get to go deeper in our interests and are able to expand our curiosity. We still learn new things and learn to work with others. What's so amazing about education is that learning doesn't stop. In whatever field we choose to pursue, we face challenges. We have moments of success, and we consistently increase our education.

With all this in mind, let's talk about how education truly changes the lives of individuals and families. Through higher education comes more opportunities for jobs and financial stability. Many employers are looking for higher education and experience. More education often comes with higher pay and some jobs require a Bachelors, Masters, or a Doctorates degree. Even teachers can often make more through both experience and additional schooling.

Here at BYU we receive an excellent education with a focus on study and on faith. There are so many opportunities to do good worldwide and follow the example of Jesus Christ in our teaching. As educators, we will go on to do good in schools or impact young people in some other way. Education is something that is shared and it takes dedication, time, and a willingness to learn. Many all over the world have educational opportunities, but unfortunately not everyone does.

Even with higher education, there is sometimes a language barrier that people face when pursuing employment. If you are seeking for another way to expand your skills worldwide teaching english is an option that helps millions of people further their education and opens doors. Having a teaching degree is a great start to finding opportunities. The TESOL minor here at BYU can also give you more certification since you'll be endorsed for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. This is an endorsement that will help you teach and include English language learners in schools here in the US as well. Teaching English is a rewarding experience since you can connect with and learn from new cultures. New opportunities are also opened up for those you teach, since many are seeking to learn or would like their children to learn English because of the demand for it in many jobs. For a couple of summers, I tutored English online and it was incredible to see children that I tutored become more confident. Learning what they did in such a short amount of time blew my mind. There are ways to teach online, but there are also ways to travel, experience, and teach in countries all over the world.
