This year general conference had some great quotes from David O. McKay. We thought we'd share the quotes we loved and our thoughts on it. In Elder Quentin L. Cook's talk "Integrity and Virtue Lead to Happiness" he shares a story about David O. McKay as a young missionary in Scotland. "As a new missionary, Elder McKay passed a building where the stone above the doorway bore this carved inscription:

“WHAT-E’ER THOU ART ACT WELL THY PART. This message was so important and had such an impact on Elder McKay that he used it for inspiration as a missionary and for the rest of his life. He determined that whatever responsibility he had, he would do his very best".

Abby Wirthlin

I love the idea of doing our best in all of our responsibilities! I think it is important to show integrity and reliability in everything we do. As we consistently strive to do our best, we build trust in ourselves and become more dependable to those around us.

Elder Cook then speaks on virtue and integrity. Later in the talk he again quotes President McKay saying

“Happiness is the purpose and design of existence. ‘Men are that they might have joy’ [see 2 Nephi 2:25]. Virtue, uprightness, faithfulness, holiness, and keeping the commandments of God lead to a happy life".

Avery Jensen

When I read this quote, it reminds me about just how loving our God is. I think that we can get caught up in our busy schedules between work and never ending assignments. This reminds me that we were put here to have joy and that through our Savior, we can find joy in everything that we do. We are so blessed to be such beloved children of God!

Elder Neil L. Andersen's also shared a quote from President McKay in his talk "Courage Born of Our Faith in Jesus Christ" where he says

"As a young man, I heard President David O. McKay say, “The greatest battle of life is fought within the silent chambers of your own soul.” As we courageously win the battles of the soul, our faith in our Savior multiplies".

Rachel O'Malley

This quote reminds me that we are all going through different struggles and that a lot of them include wrestling in our hearts. I know that when I turn to the Savior and give Him my burdens, I feel so much more peace and strength to overcome my battles and persevere through Him.
