What I Learned From the Master Teacher

Here at the McKay School, we strive to model our teaching after the Master Teacher, Jesus Christ. We asked the student ambassadors what they have learned about teaching from the Master Teacher, and this is what they said!

Lauren: Early Childhood Education Major

"I have learned many valuable lessons from the Master Teacher that have helped me prepare to be a teacher. I have learned how important it is to teach with love and to see every student as Christ would. Another lesson Jesus Christ has taught me is how important it is to prepare. As I prepare physically and spiritually, the Spirit will be able to guide me through my lesson plan and help meet each student's needs. The Master Teacher is truly the perfect example in every way. Knowing that I am teaching God’s children inspires me to become more like Christ in every way."

Megan Brinton: Elementary Education Major

"Learning about how to teach with Jesus Christ as my constant example has made me a more compassionate person. As I strive to be like Him, I find myself becoming more and more Christlike. I hope that after I graduate and have my own classroom, I can carry those traits with me as I continually strive to be like Him as I teach children of God."

Kamora Shelton: Physical Education Teaching/Coaching Major

"I learned to teach with love and compassion from the Master Teacher. Jesus always demonstrated love for the people he taught. He cared about their well-being and wanted them to understand and accept his message. This loving offer opened their hearts and minds to His teachings. Just like Jesus, I can love and get to know my future students. I can show them I care about them and the content I am teaching. Doing this will help my future students understand the importance of what they are learning."

Sarah: Special Education Major

"I have learned to see others as individuals like Christ would. No two students are the same. Different types of learners need to be taught using different strategies, and students with different backgrounds need to be shown love differently."

Dixon: Elementary Education Major

"The master teacher, who is Christ, teaches me how to be a better teacher by his attributes. All of the Christ-like attributes are qualities we need as teachers. We need to be humble, obedient, patient (especially this one), charitable, loving, hopeful, virtuous, full of integrity, wise, and diligent. As I work to be more like him in these ways, I am able to have a bigger impact on my students and will grow to be a better teacher as I focus on being more like the master teacher. I’ve learned more about who I am and what I can become through prayer and scripture study. I am far from perfect, but I can improve every day. He helps me to be a better version of myself as I come to Him in faith. He is the best one to turn to for help as a teacher because He is the master teacher."
