Why did you decide to major in education?
"I discovered a passion for teaching and realized how much I love helping students get excited about what they're learning!"

What is your ultimate goal as a teacher?
"My ultimate goal as a teacher is for my students to enjoy school and develop a lifelong passion for learning. Most importantly, I want them to feel loved, cared for, and to truly understand the great worth they have, and to be confident in themselves. I believe teachers play one of the most important roles in a young person’s life, and I hope to be someone who encourages and supports my students every day."
What are some of your favorite classes in the PETE program?
"I’ve really enjoyed our 230 and 231 classes – K-12 Physical Activities Content and Skills. I love that we not only learn how to teach a variety of sports, but we also grow closer as a cohort by participating together!"
PETE 230 and PETE 231 are classes every PE major has to take. In these classes student learn the rules of a bunch of different sports and how to teach them. They are super fun and beneficial classes and you get to spend so much time with the same people.

What are your plans after graduation?
"Since starting my Health Education minor, I’ve discovered a strong interest in how health impacts lives. These classes have shown me how important health education is in shaping lives and communities, and they’ve inspired me to explore ways I can make an impact beyond the classroom. I’m still deciding on the exact path, but I hope to attend graduate school to continue growing my knowledge and skills in public health and education."
Share a story about when a teacher impacted you.

"I have had many teachers and coaches that have helped me create a love of education and sports. It is what has ultimately led me to become a teacher myself! One teacher who had a lasting impact on me was my high school math teacher. She believed in me and her support made all the difference. Through her
patience, encouragement, and genuine care, she helped me gain confidence in my ability to do anything. Her dedication still inspires me, and I hope to pass on that same sense of support and love to my own students one day."
Any advice for people thinking about being in your major or for people who are just getting started in the program?
"Be brave and have fun! You’ll have so many chances to teach in real settings, use them to grow more confident. You’ll quickly see just how rewarding teaching can be!"
